In this post, we’re sharing insides and conclusions from Geshe Michael Roach’s recent retreat in Kyoto, Japan, sent to us by the participants themselves. We deeply appreciate everyone who contributed by sharing their personal photos and videos from the event, as well as the quotes that left the strongest impression on them. 🙏🙂
“Raw karma is the karma of ‘maybe this will happen’.” I’ve never heard such cool and simple explanations of complex things anywhere else. Geshe Michael is a genius at making the complicated simple. Being in the same space as a teacher is an invaluable opportunity.
Hard and diligent work means practicing Buddhism with inspiration.
If you are studying Lamrim or Buddhism and not enjoying it, you are doing something wrong.
If you feel tired, lack energy, or don’t have enough time while studying Buddhism, you are doing something wrong.
In your Dharma practice, you shouldn’t resemble a donkey climbing a hill—you shouldn’t grumble.
“There is no reason to be unhappy when pain arises. Pain comes to everyone; it will happen to each and every one of us as long as we have a human body! So… why be sad? REJOICE!!!” – Geshe-la
It’s hard to imagine how many seeds are needed to experience such a retreat with such amazing teachers! 🥹 It’s truly incredible. 🙏 A huge thank you to all the organizers, teachers, and everyone involved in creating this miracle! 🫶🏼♥️
There are endless “asses” in the world! They never run out! When you are born, a line of “asses” appears and ends only with death!
YOU HAVE NO CHOICE – THERE WILL BE PROBLEMS! BUT THERE’S NO REASON TO BE SAD! HAVE FUN!!!!
Harm your upset state of mind!
Everything that remained unresolved for a long time suddenly starts resolving one thing after another. You find yourself in the field of the Teacher’s incredible power, and you become stronger. Inspired by this new state, you make choices that you didn’t have the strength for in the past, choices that will “echo into infinity.”
Even if you’re speaking about emptiness to just one person, you are teaching—respect the stage, prepare yourself, tune in, and cherish this opportunity! It might be their only chance in life to deeply connect with the seed system. 💎
When we don’t get angry at those who provoke us, we burn through an immense amount of negative karma. We should seek out such people and be grateful to them! 💎
In Buddhism, the people who irritate you are your business partners in the enterprise called Buddhahood. 💎
“Your student should be your lam rim.”
“Do what you talk about. If you can’t do it shut up and do it and then talk about it.“
“The teacher who makes mistakes is better than the teacher who pretend not to make mistakes.“
“Your couldn’t cover the world with the leather just put some shoes on.“
“The worst trouble in your life I predict will be the thing that makes you the happiness.”
Thank you Teacher for these incredible teachings and for the ability to convey them in such an accessible and simple language! When you listen live, the information penetrates on a completely different level! After the retreat, I was left with the feeling as if my internal software had been reprogrammed.
Thank you to the entire team for the excellent organization of the event, for the best hotel in Kyoto and for the beauty that we were all surrounded by all these days! I really hope to come back to Japan again and meet everyone in March and next December!
Messages from Geshe Michael’s Lam Rim:
“Talk to yourself about your problems, to your Future Buddha, ask for advice, and listen.”
“Don’t be the one who apologizes; don’t get angry, stop at the very beginning.”
“The people who irritate you are helping you burn off bad karma—use this opportunity.”
“You decide to be a happy person.”
Thank you so much—it was amazing to be near Geshe Michael and to feel the incredible state that remains in the heart. There are so many messages, and I think they will continue to reveal themselves over time. Such a grand event—now I recommend everyone to plant the seeds for such meetings. Grateful ❤️
